6 years
I have wondered what May 7, 2011 would be like from the day I made the decision to leave. I've felt both an anxious curiosity and dread, often waffling back and forth between them in the same five minute window of time. But, here we are, May 7, 2011, the 6th anniversary of my wedding.
Here's what I remember, it was a gorgeous Spring day. It was warm, not hot, and we felt a sprinkle of rain early in the afternoon. A little behind schedule, I rushed into the church to change into my dress. My mom, my sister, one of her friends, and I squeezed into a closet to get me dressed. Later, I remember being tucked away on the choir loft stairs, listening to all of our guests arrive. Many of my friends and relatives had to drive two hours to attend and some even flew in from out of town. I remember thinking "these people are all here for me, for us". It was exciting and special and memorable, for all the right reasons.
Just as it was in 2005, Mother's Day is tomorrow. I love that this is my weekend to spend with Sarah and Emily. They are proof that 6 years ago today, I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
