Homecoming 2022

Homecoming, or as all the cool kids are calling it, Hoco. Whatever you call it, tonight was a culmination of a month's worth of conversation and preparation. Emily planned from Day 1 to attend with her soccer friends, and Sarah was hoping to be asked, but ultimately ended up meeting friends at the dance. Because of her boot, Emily didn't have the best time, and was in fact, bored much of the night. Sarah had a blast and can't wait til nex year. We took a few sister pictures by the stone wall at Mount Alvernia's, and Emily met up with her friends at Natalie's house for more. Sarah's dress came from Macy's, and was on sale for the bargain price of $15. We found Emily's on Amazon for around $40. Because we saved on the dresses, I agreed to pay for hairstyles. Our neighbor Leah is a hairstylist and was happy to accommodate when I asked.

Season Ending Injury

Back in May, Emily starting complaining about pain in her shin. She refused to let me take her to a doctor, so we let it go. She didn't play much soccer over the summer until August. Again she started complaining of leg pain, but she was walking fine and keeping up during games. Last week she took a shot to the shin, and said she had never felt such pain. Finally she admitted that she should probably see a doctor. I made her an appointment for this morning. At some point in the recent past she had stress fractures in both legs, but they healed. However, due to severe inflammation in her shin, she is at risk for developing more. When the nurse practioner told her she'd need to wear two boots AND would be out for the remainder of the soccer season, she cried silent tears. We signed her up for physical therapy, and she is on a mission to fast track her recovery.

Golfing

My best friend from college signed me up for a golf fundraiser for Choices Pregnancy Services. I don't golf. I can't even hit a golf ball unless it's putt putt. I stupidly agreed to go, and honestly, the fundraiser itself was nice. Golfing as not. Some small part of me actually thought I'd be able to be a spectator, and not actually have to participate.  I tried to be a good sport, but nothing about golfing interests me. I know many people love it, my husband and son included, but I just don't get the appeal or why it's fun. I gave it the ol' college try, but this will be my first and last golf experience. The weather was great, and it was nice to have day off hanging out with the girls. I also enjoyed having some me-time in the afternoon after the event ended.

Emily's First High School Soccer Goal

Emily had the only goal in tonight's game. She scored off a corner kick with about 9 minutes left in the second half. The ball hit her knee and she kicked in it off her shin. Everyone was so excited. To make this goal even sweeter, Shaler was playing North Hills, where her dad's girlfriend's niece attends and plays varsity soccer. Her dad was at the game as well as his girlfriend's family. Couldn't have been a more perfectly timed goal. What.a.night!
