Chocolate and Cherries Fudge Torte

Image
Sal and I had another little anniversary - we're in double digits now. That's right. 10 months. To celebrate he picked up dinner from Scaffidi's an awesome Italian restaurant in Steubenville that I've probably previously mentioned in my blog. You can also find them on Facebook . I made the delicious Chocolate and Cherries Fudge Torte shown here. It was scrumptious, and oh so easy (but you don't need to tell him that). Ingredients 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted 1-1/4 cups granulated sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 eggs 2/3 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened 1 cup powdered sugar 1/2 cup chilled whipping cream 1-3/4 cups (10-oz. pkg.) HERSHEY'S MINI KISSES Brand Milk Chocolates 1 can (21 oz.) cherry pie filling, chilled Directions Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom only of 9-inch springform pan, or line 9-inch round cake pan...

Dixie's Tupperware Party

Image
For my birthday Emily bought the two of us tickets to Dixie's Tupperware Party at The Cabaret Theater. What a fun show. Beforehand we met Dixie "herself". Oh yes, Dixie was a man in drag.

Gliomablastoma Multiforme

Gliomablastoma Multiforme is an agressive type of brain cancer. A friend of mine recently lost her husband to this horrible disease after an 11 month battle. I read his obituary this afternoon: KARR, Jr., Michael Daniel "Dan", age 42, of Havre de Grace, MD passed away at home on September 13, 2012 after a courageous battle with brain cancer (gliomablastoma multiforme). Dan is survived by his loving wife, Gina (nee Bracaglia), two sons, Carson (5) and Tyler (3); his parents, Nancy Lou Karr of Perry Hall, MD and Michael Daniel Karr Sr. of Essex, MD, and stepmother Nancy. Growing up in Perry Hall, MD, Dan was a graduate of Perry Hall High School and attended Towson University. Afterward residing in Baltimore, Dan was self-employed as a mortgage banker and settled with his family in Harford County, MD. Dan was a true family man. A devoted husband, father and son who loved coaching his son's pre-K team sports. Dan was full of life and will be most remembere...

Confessions of an Over Achiever

I just resubmitted an assignment for my Business Writing class to receive a higher A than what I earned the first time around. She gave us the option of resubmitting and I am taking full advantage. 4 more weeks. . .just 4 more weeks.

Strawberry Shortcake

Image
I don't think I was ever a huge Strawberry Shortcake fan. I don't remember owning any of the dolls, although I know a few of my friends did. If I remember correctly the dolls smelled like their names. In addition to Strawberry Shortcake, there was Blueberry Muffin, Lemon Meringue, and Plum Pudding. However, I know I had Strawberry Shortcake sheets for my bed and Strawberry Shortcake juice glasses. I received a set of 4 juice glasses for my 5th birthday from my parents' friends, Craig and Maria Haun. Maria had put a pair of white nylon knee socks in each glass. I still remember rolling those socks down into granny rolls around my ankles in Kindergarten, much to my mother's chagrin. Over the years three of the four glasses broke and now the girls fight over which one will get to drink out of the one remaining Strawberry Shortcake glass when we go to my parents. This past weekend, after listening to the two of them argue and deciding to let my mom handle it, I got on...

Playing Catch-Up

I haven't updated this blog since August 25. It's already September 7. Yikes. Just to recap quickly. August 27 - My last class in my masters program started. Business Writing. My least favorite kind of writing. August 31 -  I went to Steubenville High School's football game. They won, 32-28. Since Sal is an assistant band director he gets to go to all the games. As long as the weather's nice I told him I'd make to as many that I could. Those kids played their behinds off too. It was a fun experience. September 1 to September 3 - Sal suggested a trip to New York City. As if he had to ask twice. On the drive out we decided to stop at Hershey's Chocolate World. On Sunday, we saw a Yankees game and a show on Broadway, Chicago . It was fantastic, as one might expect. On the way home we stopped at an Army museum in Carlisle, PA and got stuck in a torrential downpour. September 6 - Sarah was tested for allergies. We've suspected for awhile that she h...
