Intermittent Fasting Failure

In one month I lost 1.8lbs. So much for dropping multiple pounds per week. I have to re-think this for the next 30 days. I guess the good news is that despite a vacation to New England mid-month, I didn't gain. Let's just run with that and hope I have a better number to report in a month from now.

Vacation, Day 5, Maine

Image
Welcome to Maine We had plans to leave around 8:30 since the Storches wanted to get home to their dogs by noon. However, it ended up taking us more time to pack-up so we left around 9:30. It was hard leaving, and I think Emmy took it hardest of all. She loves being around everyone and all the activity that comes with that. At least we had adventures in Maine ahead of us.  We had great weather for traveling to Maine, but there are minimal interstates to travel East to West in New England. It's much more efficient to go North to South (or vice versa). However, New Hampshire to Maine is West/East so we had a two lane highway with lots of traffic for most of the drive. Stephen King's Home We did finally hit interstate for last hour and a half or so. On the way to Bar Harbor, we realized Stephen King's house was one exit away in Bangor, Maine so we detoured. Siri gave us the exact address and we had no trouble locating it. The handful of other tourists taking pictures ...

Vacation, Day 4, New Hampshire

Today is our last day. The good times never last long enough. However, we still had some fun planned. The weather didn't look promising at all so Sal and Kurt decided to forego golfing this morning. That was a bummer. I also wanted to make sure we got a family picture today because waiting until the morning we're packing up to leave is never a good thing - no one is in a good mood when we do that. And, we had a trip up Mount Washington planned. It was chilly and rainy at the house and I checked the webcams for the mountain and had no idea what we'd be in for; visiblity was low. We made sure everyone was dressed for nasty weather, except for Emmy who assured me she'd be fine in shorts, and off we went. We arrived at Mount Washington about 5 minutes late, but I had called ahead and told them we were stuck behind a logging truck and they said they'd wait for us. They had to divide our group out so it was our family and Doreen in one van, and Kurt and the boys in ...

Vacation, Day 3, New Hampshire

Our first full day in beautiful New Hampshire. Our reunion days are generally spent just hanging out and seeing where the day takes us, but we did book a moose tour for this evening. However, the day was wide open. The guys went golfing at Wentworth Golf Club  and Kim, Doreen, and I decided to find a bakery. Before we left Emily mentioned her back hurting, but I brushed it off to a muscle strain or pull. Kim wanted to have a small, surprise graduation party for Seth so leaving the kids behind, we went in search of a cake. What we ended up with were donuts and cupcakes from two different bakeries. The second bakery just happened to be located at the outlets so we did a little shopping too. All three of us found some great deals, and as we pulled into the driveway, Emily texted me begging me to come home.  She looked awful so I asked her what was wrong. She listed all the symptoms of a classic urinary tract infection. I googled and found a doctor's office with walk-in...

Vacation, Day 2, New Hampshire

It's reunion day! After a restless night in our too-warm hotel room, we headed out about 9am. Our first stop was Dunkin Donuts right across the street, since the Best Western wasn't serving breakfast. Our drive out of Bennington was pretty and then we hit rain. A lot of rain. All the scenic views were curtain of fog, but we made it to the New Hampshire line and the weather improved slightly. We stopped for lunch at a Subway in Littleton, New Hampshire.  By this time we were in touch with Kurt and Kim, and we discovered we had timed our trips so well that we would arrive about the same time at the house. Well, our GPS choked and we ended up on a dirt road and something just didn't seem right. As it turns out we weren't in the right place so we decided to meet in the parking lot of  The Red Parka in Glen, and we would follow the Storch's to the correct place. The house is cute, and because it's owned by Kim's cousin they had been there many times in...

Vacation, Day 1, Vermont, pictures to come

Image
Every summer we get together with Sal's extended family for a few days. We rent a house or stay in a timeshare and just hang out. We all agree it's the best week of our year. This year Kim suggested we stay at her cousin's airbnb near Bartlett, New Hampshire. Barlett is a 12 hour drive for us according to the gps and with three kids, we always add two hours for potty breaks and food. Knowing it would take us two days to get there, and with the coronavirus still raging, we chose our overnight destination carefully and revised our route/plans a couple times. We ended up in Bennington, Vermont. The Battle of Bennington was significant during the Revolutionary War as part of the Saratoga campaign. From Wikipedia: The battle was a major strategic success for the American cause and is considered part of the turning point of the Revolutionary War; it reduced Burgoyne's army in size by almost 1,000 men, led his Native American supporters to largely abandon him,...

Dentist

Image
Seth has been to the dentist before, but this was his first real cleaning and fluoride treatment. He has one loose tooth, left front upper. I guess it's unusual that this tooth would be loose first, but it was the first one he got to so it makes sense to me. He practiced how to brush teeth using Mr. Big Mouth.
