The South, Day 2
The batting cage was open so Sal took a few swings using a bat built to the dimensions of Mickey Mantle's bat.
We visited Louisville Slugger before when the girls were little, and it's a nice place. Seth seemed to enjoy touring the bat factory too.
Sal probably could have spent more time here, but I was looking at the 6 hour drive ahead of us to Memphis, and I definitely wanted to have dinner on Beale Street. We had lunch at a Subway somewhere in Tennessee, and then we hightailed it to Memphis.
We had a room for two nights at the Homewood Suites on Poplar. Downtown Memphis hotels are expensive so we decided to save a little cash and stay further out. The hotel was great, we had a kitchen, dining area, living room, bedroom, and bathroom with separate water closet. It was definitely more than we needed as a family of three, but there's no denying it's nice to have room to spread out.
We checked in, unpacked, got Sal's machine set up, and then went to Beale Street. B.B. King's was booked. but an Irish Pub had availability. Our meal was good - Sal had ribs and I had a BBQ po'boy, and a rum punch in a souvenir glass. We split an order of fried pickles. It was so good to be in the South again.
We left the restaurant in rainstorm. It was coming down in sheets and we were soaked by the time we made it to the car 2 blocks away.
We will have more time to explore the Beale Street area later in the week so more about that later.
